Kristy manages the Kingston Foreshore Caravan Park with her husband Chad. Along with their two little boys, they are always on the lookout for the next local adventure in Kingston that is family friendly.

Kristy shares the top family friendly things to do in Kingston that are enjoyable and easy when you have children and grandparents holidaying with you, all within easy walking distance or a short drive from Kingston Foreshore Caravan Park.

Kingston Beach on Lacepede Bay – safe for swimming

“The Caravan Park is situated directly across the road from Kingston Beach on Lacepede Bay. It is a wonderful beach to bathe – not too many waves and safe for children. It also faces west which means you get to see beautiful sunsets at the end of the day.

The beach has a large grassed area in front for kids to play cricket and footy or to fly their kites, and you can see the park and beach from the caravan park.

The Kingston Beach jetty is a short walk away so you can take the kids and a fishing rod and fish off the jetty.

The beach is ideal for lots of activities –  long walks at sunset, kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, jet skis catching squid, snorkelling, surf and beach fishing, windsurfing and sailing.

One thing families love when they come to Kingston is that they can take their car right onto the beach, set up camp and stay for the whole day – fishing, eating, relaxing. You might even see some dolphins and seals passing by.

The Granites – you can drive for many kilometres up the beach to find more secluded places if you want. We suggest driving 20 kms along the beach to the Granites – these are large granite rock formations that sit on the waters edge.”

Hop on a bike and circle Kingston’s coastal trail

“The bike trail goes along the coast of Kingston Beach. You can opt for a shorter bike ride around 2 kms or you can do a 5 km loop that goes along the esplanade, around to Maria Creek and back to the caravan park.

The bike track is scooter and pram friendly so it’s a nice easy stroll with young and older family members.”

Take a walk in nature or through town

“Butchers Gap is a conservation park with walking trails and is ideal for bird watching. You will see many swans, herons and if you’re lucky of the less obvious species such as the Orange Bellied Parrot, Rufous Bristlebird, or the Shy Brown Quail.

Allow one hour for the short loop and two hours for the longer walk. They are pram and scooter friendly so ideal for smaller children and elderly grandparents.

If you enjoy a little bit of history, take a walk through Kingston’s town centre. It’s a 15 minute walk from the caravan park and you’ll see the Post Office, the Old Police Station, the Courthouse and the Gaol complex. There are also antique stores, op-shops, gift shops and cafes to visit.”
