Every year over the cooler months from May through to September, our region is host to exciting events for families, couples, singles and all ages. If you enjoy food, wine, the arts or religious festivals, there is an event on for you!

The Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival

Every year the Penola Coonawarra Art Festival showcases the region’s art and cultural heritage through exhibitions, workshops and performances. This highly anticipated event has been running since 1991 and has been called one of the best regional festivals in South Australia.

There will be artists, local wineries, musicians, local businesses, artisan food producers and performers for the entire family to enjoy. The festival runs over four jam packed days of events.

Coonawarra Cellar Dwellers

Every year the Coonawarra wineries bring out their rare and unique wines during the entire month of July offering visitors an opportunity to taste and buy “back vintage” aged wine. These are wines that are not normally available at their cellar doors.

Coonawarra wines are known for their superior ageing ability so you will be in for some very special wine tasting during the month of July.

You can choose from more than 50 events and activities, including exclusive wine tastings, degustation dinners and lunches, museum wine tastings, cooking classes and high teas to enjoy.

The Millicent Cup

The Millicent Cup happens every year and is run by the Millicent Racing Club with prize money ranging from $12,000 to $30,000. The day includes activities, live music, fabulous fashion on the field and food for the whole family for a fun day out at the races.

Mary MacKillop Feast Day

Penola is a special place for Mary MacKillop, when together with Julian Tenison Woods, she co-founded the Australian Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1866. Their worked subsequently helped many people in need all over Australia in remote rural areas.

In honour of this day, the Mary MacKillop Penola Centre hold a Feast Day every year on August 8th. You’re welcome to join Mass at 9am, 11am and 4pm on Sunday, August 8th. The centre will be open from 10am-4pm and welcomes all visitors.

Health, Harmony & Happiness Festival Robe

Health, Harmony & Happiness is a non profit group at Robe who organise a 2 day festival every year to promote Health, Harmony & Happiness in the community. Practitioners will be there to educate about a range of natural healing modalities such as reiki, Bowen therapy, regeneration healing, kinesiology, cranio-sacral technique and acupressure more.

Products will also be available for purchase which include crystals, jewellery, candles, books, organic products, essential oils and more.

Tasting Australia – Hidden Treasures of Limestone Coast Food

You’ll find hidden treasures of Limestone Coast food at Bompas Beachport in this annual foodie event. From local seafood and red meat to less recognised foods grown and produced on the Limestone Coast, you’ll be delighted by the range and quality available, and you’ll have the opportunity to mingle with the producers, hear their stories and discover what makes Limestone Coast food special. The event can also cater to vegetarian and dairy free dietary requirements.
