The Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival
This annual festival takes place after the Coonawarra vintage and showcases Penola’s rich literary, art and cultural heritage, through exhibitions, workshops and performances. This highly anticipated event has been running since 1991 and is one of the best regional festivals in South Australia.
You’ll be immersed in all sorts of experiences with artists, musicians, food and wine producers and performers, highlighting the best of the region and for the entire family to enjoy. The festival runs over four days.

Coonawarra Cellar Dwellers
Cellar Dwellers is an experience for anyone who loves wine. But it’s much more than just about wine. You’ll meet the wine makers and enjoy many events and activities, including exclusive wine tastings, winery tours, masterclasses, degustation dinners, exclusive museum tastings, high teas, luncheons, and pop up festivals.

The Millicent Cup
The Millicent Racing Club looks after 50 local horses for training facilities and holds an annual meeting which is well attended by many locals and visitors.
The Millicent Cup offers prize money ranging from $12,000 to $30,000 and this year there will be live music, fabulous fashion, food and wine and more. It’s a fun day at the races for the whole family.

Mary MacKillop Feast Day
Penola is a special place for Mary MacKillop, when together with Julian Tenison Woods, she co-founded the Australian Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1866. Their work subsequently helped many people in need all over Australia in remote rural areas.
In honour of this day, the Mary MacKillop Penola Centre https://www.marymackilloptoday.org.au/ holds a Feast Day every year on August 8th. You’re welcome to join Mass at 9am, 11am and 4pm on Sunday, August 8th. The centre will be open from 10am-4pm and welcomes all visitors.

Health, Harmony & Happiness Festival in Kingston
Health, Harmony & Happiness is a non-profit organisation who are offering free wellbeing sessions at the Kingston Town Hall. If you’re visiting, you might like to nourish yourself with some health and wellness treatments.

Embrace Kids – the Movie
Embrace Kids is an uplifting film by 2023 Australian of the Year Taryn Brumfitt aimed at 9-14 year olds. It brings together a vibrant collection of stories from young people and famous friends alike, who share their experiences about body image, bullying, gender identity, advocacy, representation and more.
